Over 500 pupils from local primary schools across Belfast had the exclusive opportunity to experience ‘Seas the Day’ – W5’s brand-new, immersive theatre show that explores the people, place, and partnerships that make Belfast Harbour so important to Northern Ireland.

Featuring as part of the schools’ programme for the 2023 NI Science Festival, students had the chance to get hands-on with the physics of cranes, replicate the sounds of the shipyard, learn more about sustainable transport options, investigate how innovative technologies are changing day-to-day life at the port, and much more.

Judith Harvey, Head of Learning and Engagement for The Odyssey Trust, said: “We are incredibly proud to have produced this one-of-a-kind experience; showing first-hand the importance of Belfast Harbour and why it’s such a focal part of Northern Ireland’s heritage.”

This follows the recent news of Belfast Harbour’s new strategic partnership with W5, which includes support for its innovative ‘Move It’ zone. From designing and building model race cars, to launching rockets and parachutes, ‘Move It’ provides guests of all ages with the opportunity to discover the fast-paced, exciting world of transport design and engineering, alongside fun, hands-on exhibits and demonstrations.

Allison Dowling, Communications and Marketing Director at Belfast Harbour, said: “We are pleased to work in partnership with W5 and to support the ‘Seas the Day’ theatre show, as it brings the diverse activity at Belfast Harbour and the innovative roles in the maritime sector to life. As a gateway to opportunity, Belfast Harbour is proud to work closely with our local communities, as we support the development of digital and STEM based skills for all.”

Belfast Harbour is also one of the founding partners of W5 LIFE – The Odyssey Trust’s new £3m learning and innovation centre. The 20,000 sq. ft space offers on-site and digital skills-based outreach programmes to foster and facilitate opportunities for young people with real and tangible career outcomes.
