Objectives and Activities
The overall aim of the Charity is 'to hold, manage, safeguard and develop the investment in the Odyssey Project for the benefit of all of the people of Northern Ireland', with the main objectives of the Charity set out in its Memorandum of Association, as follows:
- To advance public education and to establish and maintain a science centre or museum to which the public shall be admitted with the intent that the Science Centre will contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge and the education of the general public in particular the public of Northern Ireland.
- For the benefit of the inhabitants of Northern Ireland to provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure-time occupation in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving their conditions of life.
The charitable objectives are achieved through:
An Interactive Science Centre whose core business is to 'unlock the scientist and creativity in everyone'.
A 10,800 seat multi-purpose Indoor Arena which attracts a wide range of artists and sporting events.
Governance
The Odyssey Trust Company Limited (the Charity) is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status (registered charity number XR23673), as such it does not have any share capital. The Charity was established under the Memorandum of Association which sets out the objects and powers of the charitable company and is governed under its Articles of Association. The Directors are members of the Charity and in the event of the Charity being wound up as members they are required to contribute an amount not exceeding £10.

The Odyssey Trust Safeguarding Policy Statement for Children, Young People and Adults
The Odyssey Trust Company aims 'to hold, manage, safeguard and develop the investment in the Odyssey Project for the benefit of all of the people of Northern Ireland'. Overseeing the management and day-to-day running of The SSE Arena, Stena Line Belfast Giants, W5, W5 LIFE and Odyssey Car Parks, we are committed to the provision of a quality service that also promotes good practice which endeavours to protect children, young people and adults at risk from harm while they visit our premises.
We do this by:
- Ensuring our staff, volunteers and regular contractors have responsibility for providing a safe environment for children, young people and adults at risk.
- Providing appropriate training and supervision for staff and volunteers, including the appointment of designated officers within each of our business units.
- Ensuring staff/volunteers are appropriately selected and vetted and are made aware of the policy.
- Ensuring appropriate action is always taken in the event of an incident, in line with best practice.
- Providing clear guidance and a code of behaviour to staff, volunteers and regular contracts to enable them to deal with:
- A safeguarding issue.
- How to deal generally with children, young people and adults.
- How to deal with a safeguarding complaint.
- Working in partnership with a range of stakeholders, we will communicate concerns to the relevant authorities.
